2016 is coming to an end and until I really sat here and really thought about it I had not realized what a memorable and amazing year it has been. There was an underlying theme of ‘memory making’ this year. So many wonderful things happened, things that I will remember for the rest of my life
The Annual Beach Trip with These Beaches
This summer, I started a tradition with two girls that are more than just my friends. They are my sisters. The three of us have been friends since high school and the older we get the more we started realizing how it is going to just get increasingly difficult to go on trips together. Once more babies start coming, and jobs take us different places in life, it will get harder! So we decided to be proactive about that situation. Every year, the first week of June, we will take a beach trip, just the three of us. We will stay in a dinky hotel on the beach (it was perfect) and we will have no plans. No schedules, no itinerary, just relaxation and fun. I love these girls so much and I could not imagine going through life without them.
Our Family Fly Fishing Trip to Cherokee NC
In June my family did something together for the first time ever, something that was long overdue if you ask me. We met my Aunt, Uncle, Cousin and his amazing Wife in the mountains of North Carolina for a week of fly fishing and good, quality family time. Well, the boys fished. The girls stayed home and played tons of games, drank a lot, ate a lot of snacks, and hung out my my adorable little cousin. I am still not sure who had more fun.
Tyler was completely in his element though. He loved being outdoors, sitting on the river, fishing with the boys. He came home soaking wet, dirty, and smiling from ear to ear as he joined the boys for a glass of whiskey out on the porch.
At the end of the trip it was decided that every year we must get together for this exact same trip. I think the hope now is to spend a Thanksgiving or other holiday get togethers in the same cabin.
Our Best Friends Got Engaged!
They are getting married! Our two best friends are getting married! Finally, the moment I have been waiting for my entire life (is that dramatic? probably but IDGAF). Our best friends got engaged and announced their wedding date, September 16th, 2017. I was beyond thrilled to learn this. Tyler and I went over for a typical night at their home which usually consists of eating obscene amounts of delicious food and drinking some craft beer. Then suddenly, my sweet friend did something that completely caught me off guard. She asked me to be the Matron of Honor in her wedding! I cannot even put into words how much this means to, to be such a part of the biggest day of her life. Most people don’t know this but Hali and I have only been friends for about 5 years. Our boys were best friends all through college and thereafter (obviously) and from their friendship, came ours. She has quickly become one of the greatest friends I have ever and will ever have. I cannot wait to spend the next year showering her with monograms, mimosas, and amazing pre-wedding festivities!
We Celebrated Our 3rd Wedding Anniversary
On November 16th we celebrated three years of marriage. I seriously cannot believe it has been that long already since we said I do. I love this man more than anything.
We Threw My Parents a Surprise 30th Anniversary Party – It Was a Huge Success
I do not even know where to begin with this one. Back in June, my sister, husband and I began planning a surprise 30th anniversary party for my parents. We thought of everything! From the food to the lighting, it could not have been a more perfect or more fun. My parents were completely surprised. Although, the highlight of the night was when my dad re-proposed to my mom, gorgeous new diamond ring and all. It was a perfect night.
After the holidays I will be putting something up about that party and all the planning that went into it!
We Went to a Gorgeous Wedding
In June, we traveled to Greenville, SC to watch two people so incredibly close to our heart tie the knot. Tyler has been friends with Aaron since college and was so incredibly thrilled to stand next to him while he married the love of his life. The wedding was breathtaking and Ashley looked absolutely stunning. Tyler and I went down a day early to help the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. get ready for the big day. I remember how incredibly helpful it was to have someone there on my big day making sure all the little odds and ends were taken care of because as the Bride it is so stressful! From making sure the car was packed with all the wedding decor to Starbucks runs, I wanted her to be as stress free as possible. I was so happy to be there for her! We have become so incredibly close over the last couple of years and it brought tears to my eyes when she came down the aisle. I cannot wait to see what is in store for us and our families in 2017.
Carolina Panthers Season Tickets – #KeepPounding!
This year, Tyler and I had season tickets to Panthers games! We are enormous Carolina Panthers fans so this was a real treat for us. We budgeted hard to make sure this could happen for us and it did. We tailgate before every game with my family and our ‘tailgate’ crew who are some of the nicest, most generous people I have ever come across. They will be life-long friends and I can’t wait to spend another season cooking, eating, drinking, and laughing with them!
I FINALLY Saw Kacey Musgraves Live!
This year I FINALLY saw Kacey Musgraves live! She is probably my absolute favorite artist and it was so wonderful to hear her live. She is seriously just as talented live as she is on her albums, that voice is the real deal. I think I just love how raw she is. Her albums are not all about falling in and out of love, they are about real-life situations. I just love her attitude and I cannot wait for her next album.
We Spent Another Carolina Summer on Lake Wylie
Well, we spent another beautiful Carolina summer on Lake Wylie surrounded by our family and closest friends. It was awesome as usual, there is nothing like knowing that at the end of a hard, long work week you will be soaking up the summer sun on the lake. I don’t know, there is just something about being on the lake during summertime, maybe its a Carolina thing. It just makes me feel good.
A Reunion with my Cousins Happened!
Now THIS was huge! We finally, after YEARS of saying we were gonna do this, had a reunion weekend with our cousins. We are all really close in age so growing up we were always together. Once we moved to North Carolina it got a little bit harder to stay in touch. However, this summer we changed that. My cousins came down from New Jersey to spend a few days with us in North Carolina. It was the funniest thing, we almost expected it to be semi-awkward because it had been so long since we last saw each other but it was the complete opposite. We picked right back up! We laughed so hard and talked about everything. We went out to dinner with the whole family one night and the plan was to go out somewhere in Charlotte afterwards. Something just clicked with all of us, we didn’t want to go to a crowded bar we just wanted to be together. So, we went home and partied old school style, beer pong included. It was absolutely the best. My cousins are tough, smart, beautiful, incredibly kind and I am so blessed to be related to them. I cannot wait for the next reunion. Also, huge shoutout and congrats to my cousin Jamie on her engagement!
So that’s it folks! I am sure I am missing something but all-in-all 2016 was a fantastic year. Thanks to the people I hold closest to my heart, I made memories this year that will be special to me forever.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone, from my family to yours!
