As a new soon-to-be mama my pregnancy journey has been quite a learning experience with a lot of trial and error. I experienced several symptoms in the first trimester that disappeared by the third. During the end of my second trimester and well on into my third is certainly when I started to feel the most “uncomfortable” in terms of my growing belly and several other things.
Here are my top 6 pregnancy must-haves that I could not have lived without!
Three Lollies Preggo Pop Drops
I was fortunate that I have had zero nausea my entire pregnancy. However, up until around week 14, I was having major food aversion, and it would only be when I “thought” of a certain food that I would feel a little sick. These Preggo Drops were a lifesaver, the sour taste of them really helped and they will definitely go into my pregnancy survival kit for baby #2.
Fetal Heartbeat Doppler
There are mixed opinions on purchasing and using one of these. Several say that by owning your own fetal heartbeat monitor you are setting yourself up for panic when you can’t find the heartbeat right away on your own. However, as couple who went through a miscarriage, NOT knowing what was going on with our baby felt like a heavier burden. Prior to purchasing this, my husband had a stern talk with me, “Okay babe, let’s get this monitor but you need to remember that you are not a Doctor and if you can’t find the heartbeat right away you can’t freak out.” He knows me pretty well and I think he also knew that regardless of his stipulation…I would freak out if I couldn’t find it. However, with the Sweetie Song Fetal Heartbeat Doppler, I was able to pick up our baby’s heartbeat on the first try at around 12 weeks. I used this probably every other day during my first trimester and once I was feeling baby Sellers moving around, not so much. Now I only use it when I simply want to hear his heartbeat.
Snoogle Maternity Pillow by Leachco
Fun story. I didn’t realize exactly HOW difficult sleep becomes once you hit the third trimester. I had always heard that a good, restful night sleep was hard to come by during this time but jeez Louise. So one night we are laying in bed drifting off to sleep and my husband began snoring. He rarely does this and it usually only happens when he has a cold, which he did. We also had the dog in the bed who takes up more room than the two of us combined (but she’s so cute so like, I would almost go sleep on the floor before I tell her to get down). The snoring paired with my dog giving me next to no room to get comfortable was making it impossible get comfortable and fall asleep. It’s probably 1 AM at this point and I thought, “Okay I’m gonna put the TV on for a while and see if that helps.” Nope, can’t find the remote. Can’t really see where I am looking either because my contact lenses are not in. Naturally, in all my pregnant glory, I started to cry. My dog is still sleeping like she’s on vacation and my husband is snoring so loudly that I simply couldn’t take it anymore. Out loud I say, “OH MY GOD ARE YOU SERIOUS!”.
Then I hear, “Babe what’s wrong!”
Oops, haha. The next day I came home from work to find a giant box in our living room and inside was the Snoogle. Apparently, after my husband had some time to process what I said the night before he thought, “Hold up, who is she talkin’ to like that!” which led him to order this maternity pillow rush- delivery.
I am a true delight, I know.
My husband has given me a lot of really wonderful gifts, I mean like some really amazing things but nothing compares to the Snoogle. It is hands-down the most comfortable and amazing maternity pillow that has been or ever will be created. I seriously cannot stress enough how much this pillow has changed the way I sleep at night.
Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter
This belly butter is wonderful, I use this every morning after the shower and each night before bed. Before getting this my stomach felt so dry and itchy but this has kept my skin soft and itch-free, I highly recommend it to any soon-to-be mama.
Dr. Teal’s Soothe & Sleep Foaming Bath
I have become a huge advocate of bath-time with a little bit of Dr. Teal’s Soothe & Sleep Foaming Bath. It completely relaxes me and honestly makes me feel less uncomfortable now that my stomach is growing so quickly. Remember to keep the water warm but not super hot. They make floating thermometers that you can pop in the tub with you to make sure the water isn’t too hot for your body.
Something I have loved doing is tracking my pregnancy! The Adorable app can be downloaded in the App Store or Google Play and I think for $0.99 you can download these cute stamps to track your pregnancy! I chose “months by food” because food is literally my favorite thing.
Kick Counter App
Once baby Sellers started moving more consistently I started noticing a pattern of his activity during the day. He is super active between 10 AM until around 3 PM, then again at around 9:00 PM. There was one day though that I barely felt him move at all which really had me concerned (#NewMom). I downloaded a Kick Counter App so I could track his movements and as long as I was feeling 10 kicks/movements in 2 hours then I knew all was well with the baby.
I had read that Chamomile could cause the uterus to contract? But after speaking with my Doctor she said that Sleepytime Tea even with Chamomile is perfectly fine. A nice cup of this paired with a bubble bath…money.
